Since I used iPod Touch, I installed some travel app in it. And then I change into iPhone and this app always stay with me. This are some application that I found it useful for me when I travel around the globe. 1. Worldmate - The Traveler's Value Pack I used this app for the first time in 2009. This app can be used to put your itinerary in your iPhone. So your print out itinerary can stay in your bag. You can put your flight schedule, hotel address, bus & train schedule. So you can access it easily during your trip. It also can help you to search hotel & tickets. Besides schedule, it also had currency converter, tip calculator, weather forecast and others. I found this application really help. 2. PackTM I always like to know what I bring when I travel so I won't left anything behind when I came home from traveling. Usually I have a list about for things I need written in a paper. But since I used this app, I start to get rid of my old list. I found this app really useful because you can put everything in here. It also can divide my stuffs in suitcases or bags. And it help me to figure out what to bring next time I go traveling. Beside your luggage, it also have list things to do and notes. First time I used the free version, it about the same but only can put 3 travels. 3. Travelers Check I love everything well prepared. So I used this one to help me keep up things I brought. Divided into 4 categories: everyday, travel day, hike, and road trip. I usually use this for a short trip such as going out for a day or two. You can add list things you need. If I'm not mistaken, this app used to be free. But when I write this, the app cost $0.99. 4. Power Plug It always easy to bring universal power plugs but it won't hurt you if you know what kind of power plugs you need when you go abroad. Power plug is a free reference guide to the power plugs and electrical power system around the world. Note: Nobody paying me to write this.

Today, Wira and me went to Geneva 82nd International Motor Show & Accessories. The event was held in Palexpo Geneva from March 8th until March 18th. Entree ticket 16 CHF for all day pass, but Wira was able to got 2 free passes. Yeayy... It took almost 5 hours to go around the show. So many beautiful cars and some are our dream cars :) Actually, I didn't really understand about cars, but this is one of the event that Wira really looking forward to see. According to Wira, this is one out of 3 auto show that's worth to see.
On March 6th, 2012, Wira and I went to Raclette Night. This event was held by CAGI at Societe Des Vieux Grenadiers. We only have to pay 20 CHF for all you can eat raclette and first drink. In Geneva, this is a cheap price to eat. There's a lot of people come to this event.
The event start with explanation from one of the member of Societe Des Vieux Grenadiers. And then continued with ate raclette until you drop. It was fun and full. I think it's running in the blood. My family love to collect things. I start my collection with a stamps collection. My mom teaches us about collecting stamps. I don't collect much of stamps anymore but I still like it when I got something that I don't have yet.
I have a new collecting item. It's called National Token. The web says "heritage on a coin". This unique coins have a design of castle, people or anything else that connect to the place. I started to collect this last year when I went to Checkpoint Charlie. I saw a coin machine that has a picture of Checkpoint Charlie in one side. This coin is different from the pressed coin that used a copper coin to be pressed into souvenir coins. It cost € 2. Since then I start to collect National Token when it possible. I usually buy a 1 coin for each place I visited. Every time I saw the machine, my guts telling me to buy it. Sometimes it tell to buy all collections, which is not healthy for my wallet :) Today I find out even this coins have its website and you can join in collecting club. If you serious collector, you can join this club. You can also check out the coin that can be found around the world. Nice... I love it more now :) Well...I have other things to buy besides buying pins from places. First time I decided to collect pin was back in August 1993. I bought my first pin in San Francisco during the trip on Open Door orientation. After that, I always bought at least 1 pin to add to my collection for each place I go. Besides places I also collect pins from some occasions. In 10 months my exchange program, I have plenty of them. My collection adds up every time somebody when abroad. Yes...I always ask for pins as souvenirs until now. It's been a while since I counted the pins. Maybe more than 150 pins.
During my exchange program, I put my pins on a cap. When I back to Indonesia, I put it on small 'tampah' (it's a rounded woven bamboo container) and hang it on the wall. After a few years the tampah is worn out and I just put it in a bag. Never had a change to find something to put it again. For maintenance, I used to clean my pins once in a while. And I put a transparent nail polish in the back of the pin to prevent it from rusting. And a few years back, I start to collect pins from Hard Rock Cafe. I only collect from the place I visited. So far I had San Francisco, Ho Chi Min City, Hamburg, Berlin, Bangkok, and Prague. And I just found out that we can exchange HRC pins collection if you bring your collection to the store. One thing I have to buy is an HRC Jakarta pin. Unfortunately, I forgot to buy the one from HRC Bali. Besides pins, I also collect pin-back buttons. I've got plenty of them too. Since living abroad almost 2 years ago, there's one food that (almost) always stand by in my refrigerator. Bolognese sauce...yeah...bolognese sauce. This meat base sauce is one of my favourit food. Besides can be used in spaghetti or other pasta, bolognese sauce can be eaten with bread and even rice. For me this sauce is an emergency food, when I don't feel like cook complicated food or when Wira need food for lunch but there's no left over from yesterday.
I used to make this with about half kilogram ground beef. And it will turn out about 1.5 liters. I keep it in plastic container and keep it in refrigerator. Usually it last about 2 weeks. The nicest thing about this sauce is I only need less than 1 hour from cutting mushroom until it's ready to eat. |
